History of Nursing
Florence Nightingale was clear from a young age that she intended on becoming a nurse. Not only did she become a nurse, but she was also the very first professional nurse in history.
She waited until she was 30 to live her dream.
Nightingale began her career in 1853 at the Institute for the Care of Sick Gentlewomen in London. This led to her being asked to go the Crimea War by the Secretary of State of War, to care for the wounded.
Florence Nightingale was a great trailblazer and a huge piece of Women’s history. Thanks to her influence the British Red Cross was established in 1870.
