For patients experiencing chronic back pain, there are a variety of back pain treatments to help relieve pain associated with inflammation and joint damage as a result of injury, disease or unknown origin. These treatments are typically facet joint injection or epidural steroid injections, depending on the patient’s needs.
The medication injected, usually a steroid, is meant to reduce the inflammation and/or swelling of tissue in the joint space. This may in turn reduce pain, and other symptoms caused by inflammation or irritation of the joint and surrounding structures.
