There are several different types of pain that the human body can encounter. Acute pain is the body’s way of letting us know when something is wrong or what we are doing is harmful and it typically doesn’t last longer than a few weeks. This type of pain goes away once the cause has been treated. Chronic pain, however, is defined as any pain that lasts longer than 12 weeks. People with chronic pain can feel pain all over their body – in their joints, bones, or muscles. Chronic pain affects some patients for several years. Chronic pain can originate from age, genetics, disease, injury, or an infection. In some cases there is no known cause for some who live with chronic pain. Chronic pain isn’t just limited to any certain age group – it can affect anybody.
The causes for chronic pain are different for everyone. For those reasons the Javery Pain Institute offers a multimodal approach to your wellness. Because each person’s pain and reaction to pain is different we offer access to counseling, stress management, injections, advanced techniques such as spinal cord stimulators, physical therapy, and other options to help decrease our patients level of pain and improve their function so they can get their life back. In some cases, we can even eliminate pain all-together.
Staggering numbers have shown that as many as 11% of all Americans suffer from acute to chronic pain. That equates to approximately 100 million people. Over 17% of American adults suffer from severe pain. Unless you’re the one living with the pain it’s hard to understand the severity of pain and how it affects a person on all levels – including psychologically and socially in interactions with other people. Pain can often isolate you from other people who may not understand what you are going through. While some people can live with their chronic pain, others find it debilitating and they are unable to live normal lives. They can’t work, some can’t walk, and for some it’s even painful to sit, stand, or lay down. Javery Pain Institute wants you to know that living with chronic pain is tough, but you’re not alone and we are here to help!
