Back pain that travels or radiates to any part of the buttocks and legs is called radicular pain, meaning pain that travels to another area or extremity. Radicular pain can cause the lower extremities to feel numb, tingling, have a burning sensation, and even have sensations of hot and cold. These symptoms can be caused by herniated discs, bone spurs, inflamed or damaged spinal nerves, stenosis, and overall spinal degeneration. A Transforaminal Epidural or lumbar Epidural, places steroids within the epidural space decreasing inflammation and decreasing pain. This will hopefully make pain more tolerable and allow for improved function.
